Founded by the ancient Greeks and later ruled by the tyrant Dionysius I of Syracuse in the 4th Century BC, Atri has more than its share of history. It also has more than its share of beauty, nestled in the rolling hills and farmland of Italy’s picturesque Abruzzo Region, just a hop, skip and a jump from the Adriatic coast. And if you’re trying to figure out whether to choose a hotel in Atri or a hotel in the surrounding area, our HotelsOne.com website can help you with that choice. You can look up hotels that are close to Atri landmarks, hotel rooms in nearby coastal towns like Pineto and Foggetta and even hotel rooms close to Abruzzo Airport, 38 kilometers away. Our interactive area maps will show you exactly where each hotel is located, and the satellite feature can show you exactly what’s around it. The hotel photos and complete lists of amenities on HotelsOne.com allow you to check each hotel out before you check in, and you can even list Atri hotels in the order of their star ratings, their popularity or the size and age of your group.
To see Atri’s historical importance, you don’t have to look any further than the town’s name. It is said that the name of the Adriatic Sea originally came from Atri’s Latin name, Adria. And your Atri hotel makes it easy to see the sparkling blue water for yourself. Staying in town, Atri hotels allow you to walk to such sights as the beautiful 13th Century Duomo, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. You can see the Cathedral’s 56 meter high bell tower from many hotels in Atri, and the view from the top is marvelous. Don’t miss the interior frescoes, which were painting by Andrea de Litio. Or the crypt that was originally a Roman cistern. Atri hotels are also near the magnificent Palazzo Ducale, set at the city’s highest point. Now home to the city’s government, as well as that of the province, the Palazzo also provides great views.
Other things to do in Atri include visiting the remaining medieval city walls and the surviving gates, the Porta Macelli, the Porta San Domenico and the Capo d'Atri. Many hotels are also near the city’s marvelous Churches, like the Chiesa San Franceso and its Baroque flight of stairs. And unique to Atri are the Fonte Pila and the Fonte della Strega, as well as all the ancient and unexplored grottos, and the remnants of a Roman theatre. So let HotelsOne.com help you find your perfect hotel, whether it be in town, out of town or out by the airport. Close
