With 47,793,602 passengers passing through in 2007 alone, Schiphol is the fifth busiest airport in Europe, behind London, Paris, Frankfurt and Madrid. The train station right at the airport can have you at Amsterdam’s Station Amsterdam Centraal, as well as Leiden, Den Haag and even Rotterdam in very short order. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is also quite prolific in the world of commerce, ranking as Europe’s third largest and the world’s 14th largest for cargo tonnage. There’s also a direct train link to the RAI Amsterdam Congrescenter and the nearby World Trade Center. In addition to the easy train (and highway) access, the other thing that makes the airport popular is that it has only one terminal, making it a very easy place in which to find your way around. The three large departure halls converge in a central area, making the airport so hassle-free that you’d never know you’re in one of the world’s busiest airports.
The Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is home to Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM), and also Arkefly, Martinair and Transavia.com. It’s also a hub for Northwest Airlines. Though many low-cast airlines have left for the relatively smaller Rotterdam Airport and Eindhoven Airport, there are still many budget flights leaving out of the low-cost H-Pier. If staying in a hotel near the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has you early for your flight, that’s okay too, as there’s plenty to do. Take advantage of all the shopping opportunities at Schiphol Plaza.
