Reception, dining room and bar staff all excellent. Clean, well equipped, spacious room and the best shower yet. I habitually use Premier Inns (Manchester, Euston, St. Pancras and South Kensington this summer) which is my comparator in this review.

I had a shocking night. We stayed in room 206 and the noise was unbelievable. It started at around midnight with rowdy drunken shouting. At around 1am there was an almighty fight going on between a couple. The male was shouting and using abusive language and there were loud banging noises coming from what felt like very nearby. I went to use the bathroom and became aware that someone was attempting to gain access to the room. I stood by the door and asked them what they were doing, a man answered and told me that he had been given room 206 at the desk and was trying to get into his room! Thank God that I had locked the door from inside. I phoned the desk and the receptionist admitted he had made a mistake. I also told him that the argument that was raging on our floor was getting louder and more violent. He said he would come up. While I was on the phone someone banged on our door but had gone when I looked through the spy hole. A few minutes later they banged again and I called out thinking it may have been reception, a man called back "are you two going to argue all night as I need some sleep". i told him that we also needed sleep and that he should phone reception as I had done. I again phoned reception and spoke to Lionel. I told him that I was now terrified as we had had a person trying to access the room, someone banging on the door accusing us of arguing and a full on violent fight raging in the background. He was very apologetic and said that reception had made "a very bad error" in sending someone to our room and that the police had been called in order to sort out a very drunk troublesome guest.I did not sleep at all and it was my birthday the next day. We left York early the next morning and I don't want to ever return. I am still traumatised by this experience, i was told the next morning that the hotel always has this type of problem when York races is on!

Although i enjoyed my experience i thought that the room was slightly dated, but did find the staff more than helpful.just a touch expensive for an average room.

Refurbishment in progress but did not spoil our stay. Both registered disabled, all facilities very good. Close proximity to town centre. Food excellent. Will certainly be making a return visit. S. Glover

A very nice hotel, situated within walking distance of the city centre. Did not try the restaurant, but the food in the pub was very nice. The hotel had a Pool and a nice "veranda" outside. I can definitely recommend this hotel.
